A Message From Your Council Member…

Happy New Year! We are looking forward to 2016 to be a great year for our Ward 6 residents. One of the highlights this year will be the Grand Opening of Home Front at Camp Anza. The community is invited on April 9th to celebrate the opening of this facility. More detailed information on the Grand Opening in the coming months, but in the meantime veterans interested in applying for residency visit: www.wakelandhdc.com/communities/projects/anza. This project is going to bring positive attention to Riverside, specifically to the Arlanza neighborhood and the community.

Youth Accountability Team Comes to AUSD

In 1996, the County of Riverside opened three school-based, delinquency prevention programs designed to address youth and their families. This year they will begin a program in the Alvord Unified School District. The Youth Accountability Team includes a deputy probation officer for supervision and case management; a deputy district attorney to address the legal ramifications of delinquency; outreach workers for counseling, group intervention, and referrals to other agencies; school site officials to address the youth’s educational needs and progress; and representatives from local law enforcement agencies. These programs are governed by the Riverside County Probation Department and funded under the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act. This is an outstanding program and we are excited to have the Alvord district partner with Riverside County to make this program possible in our area.

Alert: Road Closed

We are happy to share that the Magnolia Grade Separation is on schedule. However, the contractor is expected to close lanes at the intersection of Magnolia Ave at Buchanan on the weekends of January 8th-10th and January 15th-17th to repave the intersection. Lane closures will begin at 10:00 pm on Friday and all lanes should be open by 6:00 am on Sunday. Please plan accordingly or use alternative routes.

Records Request

Residents are now able to request records on-line through EngageRiverside.com by clicking on the “Open Records” button.  The features include:

  • Requesting documents
  • Checking the status of requests
  • Viewing responsive documents
  • Viewing requests made by others and the responsive documents
  • Viewing proactive information the City posts

This new system replaces manual and other Department specific systems with an enterprise wide repository and tracking of requests. This project represents yet another step supporting the Mayor and City Council’s goals for more openness in government and unparalleled customer service.

Veteran Learning Hubs

Veterans have the opportunity to join a free program taking place at the Arlanza Library to improve their employment communication skills. The Riverside VA Learning Hub is partnered with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, American Red Cross and Coursera and they will provide the following:

  • No-cost four-week VA Learning Hub in Communication in the 21ST Century Workplace starting January 2016.
  • An opportunity to build your skills through a combination of online classes and in-person sessions.
  • Each week you will complete a Coursera course module online, and then attend a session to discuss the material with fellow learners and hear from experts in the field.
  • Upon successful completion of the course, Transitioning Service Members and Veterans may receive one FREE Verified Certificate co-issued by Coursera and University of California, Irvine.

The first class will meet January 4th at 6:00pm, Arlanza Library (8267 Philbin Avenue, Riverside). Please register ahead of time by emailing Erin.lee.ctr@calibresys.com with the subject “Riverside Learning Hub” and your full name in the body.
