Muscular Dystrophy Association Fill the Boot Campaign:
It’s that time of year again! Members of The Riverside Firefighters Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association will kick off the firefighters annual Fill the Boot Campaign. Throughout October 8, 9, and 10, members of The Riverside Firefighters Association, Local 1067, will fan out across city intersections with boots in hand. Fraudulent Fire Inspections:
Beware of scam artists
posing as Fire Department personnel who are targeting businesses claiming they
are there to inspect fire extinguishers, alarms, fire sprinklers, etc. Criminals,
impersonating Fire Department staff, wear official looking blue shirts and
trick employees to sign service agreements to bill the business for services
rendered. Don’t be fooled! Fire inspectors and Firefighters DO NOT perform
maintenance to fire extinguishers or fire sprinklers. Firefighters and Fire
Inspectors WILL NOT ask for payment on the spot. Actual Firefighters and Fire
Inspectors in the City of Riverside wear a Fire Department uniform with a
badge, name tag, and Fire Department patches. If you suspect you’re being
scammed please call the City of Riverside Fire Department at (951) 826-5737
during business hours or the Fire/Police dispatch center at (951) 354-2007.
Agent Orange Town Hall Meeting:
The Vietnam Veterans of America will be hosting an Agent Orange Town hall Meeting on October 17, 2015 at Orange Terrace Community Center-20010 Orange Terrace Parkway, Riverside, CA 92508, from 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

Agent Orange is a mixture of chemical defoliants used by the military during the Vietnam War as an effort to eliminate forest cover. It was later revealed that many diseases such as muscular dysfunction, inflammation, birth defects, nervous system disorders, and development of cancer can be associated with exposure to Agent Orange. California Drought:
As we head in to cooler
weather, it is important to be reminded of our efforts to reduce the use of
water throughout the city. To all the residents who continue their efforts to moderate
water usage, we thank you for contributing to city wide goals. Due to the
drought, Riverside Public Utilities customers must achieve the 28% mandated
water conservation goal. As of August 2015 we are at a 23% of reduction
compared to August 2014.
In an effort to reach the goal, RPU is partnering with Western Municipal Water District and the
Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to offer a free training
class on water wise landscaping. The California Friendly Landscape Training
Workshop is a three hour class that will be held on November 7 at Stratton
Community Center at Bordwell Park- 2008 Martin Luther King Blvd. Riverside
92507. Space is limited so make sure you reserve your seat by registering at www.riversidedrought.com/landscaping-workshop.
I want to hear from you!

and to maintain open lines of communication I want to hear
from you! If you are interested in hosting a community meeting at your home let
me know! I would love the opportunity to share information with neighbors and
hear what you have to say. For more information or to set up a community
meeting, contact my assistant Sandy Garcia at (951) 826-5024 or via email at sgarcia@riversideca.gov.
