Port of Oakland Community Alert - Phone Scam

Attention: Phone Scam Alert!
Individuals are making numerous, repeated phone calls to local residents claiming they represent a financial or banking institution. The calls appear on Caller ID as though they are coming from the Port of Oakland, which is not the case and may be originating from a foreign country. This type of scam is called "spear phishing". The caller is asking for sensitive personal and financial information.
The Port of Oakland is not in the business of collecting sensitive personal or financial information over the phone from the general public. Regarding this scam, we have informed and engaged law enforcement.
If you have received such a phone call and became a victim of fraud, or know someone else who was a victim of this scam, please go to the Alameda County District Attorney's office website to the Consumer and Environmental Protection forms page , click on “Consumer Fraud Form” and fill out the report.
The completed form should be mailed to the Consumer and Environmental Protection Division along with any supporting documentation you may have. Their address is as follows:
