Construction Updates

The Development Services Department strives to update those interested in private construction in the City of Palo Alto.  The purpose of this email notification is to give you construction related updates in the City of Palo Alto.  The following projects are currently in either plan review or under construction.  This update is sent monthly to provide a description of work, share a recent picture of the site or rendering, and provide a current status of the project.

4329 El Camino Real, The Hilton Homewood Hotel

4329 El Camino  

This project is a new 111,585 square foot, 4-story hotel that contains 138 rooms located above a one level underground parking garage with 137 parking spaces. Drywall is complete in the lobby areas, and the sleeping rooms are being trimmed for finish. The project is approximately 80% complete.


4214 El Camino Real, The Hilton Garden Inn

This project is a new 105,685 square foot, 4-story hotel that contains 174 rooms located above a two-level underground parking garage with 178 parking spaces. Currently the sleeping rooms are being approved at the rough inspection stage with all exterior façade installations initiating. The project is approximately 55% complete.

300 Pasteur Drive, Stanford Parking Garage

300 Pasture Dr  

This project is a new 5-level parking garage that includes an auditorium at the roof level.  Two of the five levels of parking are located below grade with 970 parking spaces. In the last month, the roof deck is being installed, with interior CMU and all-trades systems being installed at lower levels. The project is approximately 70% complete.


780 Welch Road, Medical Office Building

This project is a new 31,353 square foot, 3-story medical office building located above one level of underground parking with 150 parking spaces. Currently the all-trades, insulation and sheetrock are complete, with significant site installations underway. The project is approximately 80% complete.

3431 Hillview Avenue, VMWare Campus

This project consists of four phases. The third phase is nearing completion and the fourth phase will be something to look forward to.

Building CSD: This project is a 15,036 square foot cafeteria. Building Final Inspection was approved in the last week of May. 

Parking Garage 1: This project is a 3-level parking garage with 680 parking spaces. Currently final inspection is approved.

 Parking Garage 3: This project is a 4-level parking garage with 750 parking spaces. Currently temporary occupancy has been granted, and a final inspection is scheduled for the first week of August.

Site Improvements:  The contractor has installed underground utilities for future building CSG, which is Phase 4. The project is complete, and the contractor is requesting a final inspection.


2865 Park Boulevard, Park Plaza

This project is a new 3-story mixed-use building located above one level of underground parking with 295 parking spaces. The ground level will contain 47,000 square feet of commercial office space. The second and third levels, totaling 101,500 square feet, contain 85 residential units. Currently, construction at the second level continues. The project is approximately 15% complete.

This project is a new 30,000 square foot, 3-story mixed-use commercial building located above one level underground parking garage with 42 parking spaces. Currently the roof deck is poured. The project is approximately 45% complete.


2650 Birch Street, Birch Plaza

This project is a new 24,827 square foot, 3-story mixed-use structure located above a one level underground parking with 42 parking spaces. The ground level will contain 10,556 square feet of retail and business space. Eight 2-story rental apartment units will be located on second and third floors. Currently structural steel erection is underway, and second floor steel framing is underway. The project is approximately 30% complete.

This project is a new 71,000 square foot, 3-story mixed-use building that contains 44 elder care dwelling units and is located above an underground parking garage with 41 parking spaces. Temporary occupancy has been granted and residents have moved in. The project is approximately 99% complete.


101 Lytton Avenue, Lytton Gateway

This project is a new 138,951 square foot, 3-story mixed-use building that includes a 50,000 square foot office and retail space. Additionally, there are 1,600 square feet of subsidized rental property for a Palo Alto-based nonprofit organization on the ground level. This new office building is located over two and half levels of underground parking with 134 parking spaces. Currently, three new tenant improvement projects are in the final stage, and are 90% complete. The overall project is approximately 96% complete.

This project is an approximately 20,000 square foot, three building relocation/rehabilitation of an Eichler-designed neighborhood mixed-use commercial shopping center. It also includes construction of 10 new 3,000 square foot single-family homes with attached garages. To complete the 3.6 acre development a .22-acre park will be completed near the end of the project. Currently temporary occupancy has been granted to large portion of the commercial shopping center and final construction activities are taking place.  Framing and roofing are now complete, and rough mechanical, electrical and plumbing are underway. The project is approximately 70% complete.

This project is a new 15,000 square foot, 2-story office building located above a one level underground parking garage with 19 parking spaces. Currently the project is in the final phases of construction. The project is approximately 85% complete.

This project is a new 17,602 square foot single-story gymnasium and classroom building.  It also includes an 81,643 square foot commercial improvement including a new playing field, parking lot with 119 parking spaces and private road. Currently the structural steel erection is complete. The project is approximately 25% complete.

 This project is a new 27,915 square foot, 3-story mixed-use building located above a one level underground parking garage with 47 parking spaces. Retail space will be located on the ground level and office space will be located on the upper two floors. Currently the bottom level walls and columns are underway. The project is approximately 10% complete.

This project is a new 115,600 square foot, 2-story commercial building located above a one level underground parking garage with 300 parking spaces. Currently the shell of the building is ready for a TCO, and the tenant improvement portion of the project is underway. The project is approximately 95% complete.


180 El Camino Real, Bloomingdales - Stanford Shopping Center

This project is a new 107,000 square foot, 3-story retail building. Currently the rough mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems continue, and the exterior curtain walls are being installed. The project is approximately 45% complete.

This project is a new 11,436 square foot, 2-story mosque structure with two attached residential units. Currently final construction activities are taking place. The current project is approximately 98% complete.


180 Hamilton Avenue, Hotel Epiphany

This project is a modification/remodel of the existing 50,888 square foot, 8-story former Casa Olga building. A new restaurant and lobby is located on the ground floor, 86 hotel rooms are located on the remaining seven floors. Currently temporary occupancy has been granted and final construction activities are taking place. The project is approximately 99% complete.

This project is a new 95,578 square foot, 4-story above basement medical office building. There is no vehicle parking in the building. Currently, foundation footing have been completed and the slab is ready to be installed over the waterproofing system. The project is 10% complete.

This project is two 2-story townhouse buildings, each containing 3 townhomes. Each townhome is 1,237 square feet with a 460 square foot attached garage. Currently painting and site work are underway. The project is currently 80% complete.

New 4-story mixed use building with two levels of underground parking. 62,818 square feet of commercial space, 6,712 square feet of residential, and 27,941 square feet of parking. Currently first level walls and columns are underway. The project is 15% complete.  http://611-cowper.com/


CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS


3700 Middlefield Rd, Mitchell Park Library & Community Center

The Library is a 2-story structure consisting of 21,466 square feet. The Community Centers are two additional 1-story structures with a total square footage of 16,180 square feet. Currently final construction activities are taking place. The project is approximately 97% complete.

1213 Newell Road, Main/Riconada Library

Main Library  

This project is an extensive remodel, addition and upgrade of the existing Main/Rinconada library. The addition is 4,100 square feet, and the remodel covers 25,000 square feet. Currently cabinets, carpet and bookshelves are being installed, and testing of equipment continues.  The project is approximately 85% complete.


PROJECTS IN PLAN CHECK


3159 El Camino Real, Mixed-Use Building

This project is a 69,506 square foot, 4-story mixed-use building including 48 residential apartments, 16,100 square feet of retail and office space, and 15,400 square feet of new restaurant and commercial recreation space. The 30,000 square foot expansion of the existing underground parking will include 183 additional parking spaces. Plans were submitted in November of 2013. Seven of eight departments have approved the project.


711 El Camino Real, The Clement

New four story hotel with a basement for underground parking and a pool on the roof.  Area of commercial space 6897 sf, area of hotel rooms 13,027 sf, and area of parking is 6888 sf. There are 23 hotel rooms. Plans were submitted in December 2013 and the project has gone through two rounds of plan check. Three of eight departments have approved this project.

405 Curtner Avenue

A three story, six (6) unit townhouse building. All six units have the same square footage. Area  per unit is 1237 sf of habitable space and 460 sf of garage. There will be 14 parking spaces at this site. Plans were submitted in December of 2013 and the project has gone through two rounds of plan check. Three of the seven departments have approved the project.


50 El Camino Real, Ronald McDonald House

New three story building and one level of underground parking. Area of commercial and short stay residential: 51,637 sf and area of parking: 19,791 sf. Project includes 71 parking spaces. Plans were submitted in December of 2013 and the project has gone through three rounds of plan check. Five of the eight departments have approved the project.

New 3-story mixed use building. 7,705 square feet of commercial/retail shell space. The project was submitted in November 2013 and the project has gone through three rounds of plan check.  Six of eight departments have approved the project.


1700 Embarcadero, Staybridge Suites

 

New four story hotel with one level of underground parking, the area of the hotel is 114,091 sf and the area of the garage is 35,837 sf. Scope of work includes 147 hotel rooms. The project includes 169 parking spaces. Plans were submitted in October 2013 and the project has gone through five rounds of plan check. Six of the eight departments have approved the project.

2500 El Camino Real: Stanford Affordable Housing

New four story mixed use building (80,748 sf) that consists of two buildings connected by a walkway. The project contains 70 residential units and has 145 parking spaces. Plans were submitted in June 2014 and the project has gone through one round of plan check.


636 Waverley St

This project is a new 10,299 square foot, 4-story mixed-use building with 20 space parking garage. The commercial space will be located on the ground floor.  Residential units will be on the upper three floors. The project was submitted in October 21, 2014 and the project has gone through two rounds of plan check.  Four of seven departments have approved the project.

This project consists of 56,430 square feet of foundation and below-grade parking for a future 3-story office and retail building with 4,938 square feet of occupied roof deck and 2 split level of below grade parking with 62 parking spaces. One of seven departments have approved the project.


1501 California: Mayfield California Ave

This project consists of two condo buildings, a fitness building (1720 sf), a community building (2700 sf), and 68 new homes. Condo Building 1 contains 58 units (116,356 sf) and Condo Building 2 contains 54 new units (122,817 sf). Plans were submitted in June 2014 and the project has gone through one round of plan check.

The project includes a podium structure with 2 levels of underground parking, two 3-story commercial buildings connected by a walkway (52,504 sf), and a 2 story eight unit multifamily building (5304 sf). Plans were submitted in May 2014 and the project has gone through one round of plan check.

This project is a new 17,500 square feet, 4-story mixed use building.  First 3 floors designated for commercial and residential on top floor.  Submitted for plan check.

2009  

A proposed 9571 square foot 3-story mix-used building, to include a ground floor financial service, second floor office space and third floor residential single unit; with 5 proposed parking stalls. Currently it is in the first round of plan review.
