Weekly Vaccine Update
The COVID-19 mega-vaccination site at the Oakland Coliseum is now open for eligible residents. Eligible residents will need to make an appointment at the Coliseum site through the California Department of Public Health (CDPH)’s MyTurn website. California residents who sign up for MyTurn will also receive a notification on when they may be eligible to receive a vaccine.
We are currently vaccinating (as supplies allow):
-
Agriculture and food workers
-
Education and childcare workers
-
Emergency services workers
The Alameda County Health Care Services Agency (HCSA) is working to open vaccine Points of Dispensing (PODs) throughout the county. Appointments at the County PODs will be prioritized for people who are uninsured, from communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, or at high risk of exposure because of where they live or work. HCSA will contact eligible Alameda County residents to schedule appointments who have signed up for notifications on the County’s website:
HCSA has also produced a short video on how to sign up for the COVID vaccine:
Link to HCSA's video on how to up for the COVID vaccine
As newly eligible Alameda County residents seek access to the vaccine, HCSA encourages residents to:
-
Contact your health care provider:
Members or patients of Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, and Stanford Health Care are encouraged to seek the vaccine first through their health care provider. Kaiser and Sutter receive their own distribution of the vaccine directly from the state. The County also shares its vaccine allocation with eight federally qualified health centers and two community health centers.
-
Look for outreach from your employer and/or community organizations:
Alameda County is working with employers and local community groups to issue invitations directly to high-risk workers and communities.
-
Visit our website for updates or to sign up to receive a notification when it's your turn.
AC Transit FREE Shuttle Service to Coliseum for COVID-19 Vaccinations
AC Transit is now offering FREE shuttle service for eligible Alameda County residents with COVID-19 vaccination appointments at the Oakland Coliseum mass vaccination site.
The shuttles will operate between 8 am-7:30 pm, 7 days a week:
-
A shuttle going directly from the Coliseum BART station to vaccination site will operate every 15 minutes
-
A shuttle starting at the Eastmont Transit Center, with a stop at Coliseum BART, before going to the vaccination site will operate every 20 minutes
To access the free vaccine shuttle, all riders must present their email with proof of appointment to the Shuttle Bus Operator.
For additional information on the fare-free shuttles and plan your trip to the vaccination site, please visit actransit.org.
Guidelines on Improving Your Masks’ Effectiveness in Protecting You from COVID-19
As the new COVID-19 virus strains spread around the world, the Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) reminds residents to be extra vigilant in practicing COVID-19 safety measures, including double masking to reduce the risk of spreading and contracting the virus.
Wearing masks is the most effective way to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community and work best when everyone wears them. It is crucial that masks are worn correctly so they may offer you the best protection possible. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends you:
-
Make sure your mask fits snugly against your face and covers your nose and mouth.
Check for gaps by cupping your hands around the outside edges of the mask.
-
Choose a mask with a Nose Wire to prevent air from leaking out the top of the mask.
-
Add layers to your mask either by:
-
Using a cloth mask that has multiple layers of fabric.
-
Wearing a mask with filters that meets the CDC’s requirements for respirators (e.g. KN95, N95)
-
Wearing one disposable mask underneath a cloth mask.
-
Do not combine two disposable masks – this will not provide you with adequate protection
-
Use a cloth mask with tightly woven, breathable layers of fabric. Check to see if your cloth mask blocks light from coming through the fabric if held up to a bright light source.
