Wishing you and your family much joy as you celebrate this holiday season together!
Sincerely,
Denny Barney, District 1 Maricopa County Board of Supervisors www.maricopa.gov/dist1/ 602-506-1776
On December 16th, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and University
of Phoenix hosted over 550 children for a day of holiday festivities!
Each child received two new books, a sweatshirt and a new pair of shoes. I was
able to volunteer and help fit shoes on several children.
In early
December, all of our Maricopa County Elected Officials met together to discuss
the economy and upcoming financial challenges. The discussion was meaningful
and provided valuable feedback for the Board of Supervisors as we approach this
upcoming year.

This
month’s Maricopa County employee spotlight is Stefanie Murphy, Deputy
Administrator for District 1.
Stefanie
is born and raised in Arizona and has been a public servant for 10+ years. She
joined our office after serving in the Arizona Governor’s Office of Constituent
Services. She started out as a student intern for Pima County and was first
hired to work in the Maricopa County Clerk of the Board’s Office after
graduating from Northern Arizona University. In the Clerk’s Office, she learned
many valuable skills including open meeting law, record retention, minutes, and
assisted with appointments to various boards and commission and the management
of special taxing districts.
When
asked what she likes most about her new job with District 1, Stefanie says it’s
being able to help constituents obtain services and assistance from our various
county departments. She guides them through complex issues and either finds
them solutions or puts them in touch with the appropriate contact.
Many of Stefanie’s family members are also
public servants and she is proud to follow in their footsteps. We welcome Stefanie back to the county and
appreciate her many skills!

In my role as ASU Morrison Institute for Public
Policy board member, I attended the nonpartisan Morrison Institute State of the
State Conference on Criminology. The conference featured panelists that
discussed incarceration statistics, bipartisan reform strategies and private
prisons.
